1. What are the requirements for becoming a member of Oak Hills?
Having faith in Jesus Christ; being baptized; a commitment to Oak Hills; a willingness to grow.
2. What are the steps I need to take? How do I go about becoming a member?
Attend Oak Hills Discovery Workshop (formerly New Member Seminar).
3. What if I'm not sure yet? How I can get my questions and concerns answered?
You can schedule a meeting with a minister to get answers to your questions or concerns. Call 698-6868.
4. What do you teach about baptism? Would I have to be baptized again in order to be a member here?
Baptism is a "promise made to God from a good conscience" (I Pet 3:21 TEV). We urge all believers to be baptized (immersed) as a public demonstration of their faith in Jesus. Those who have already been baptized before coming to Oak Hills do not need to be baptized again. For those who are not, we would consider it a privilege to be a part of this important step. A special study "Baptism: The Demonstration of Devotion", will help answer your questions and concerns.
5. Oak Hills is such a large church. What can I do to keep from being lost in the crowd?
The best solution is to join in the Oak Hills strategy for being Jesus to our neighborhoods and beyond. Belong to a neighborhood group, grow through Bible study, and serve with your family and/or neighborhood group.
6. Can non-members attend Bible classes?
Most definitely. A complete listing of Bible classes for all ages is available in the appropriate ministry section of the web site.
7. Can I participate in the communion service even though I am not a member?
Yes. Anyone who is a committed believer in Christ can join us celebrating communion.
8. Where and when do you have instrumental accompaniment during your worship service?
A capella (non-instrumental) worship is offered at the 8:30 a.m. assembly on Sunday. All other worship services are instrumental. An instrumental praise time is offered on Wednesday, 7:00-8:00 p.m.
9. Will Max Lucado or Randy Frazee be speaking this weekend?
Max or Randy preach almost every week at Oak Hills with the exception of Summer in the Hills, a special time of guest speakers and worship leaders.
10. How can I get a CD or DVD recording of sermons?
Copies of the weekend sermon can be purchased in the UpWords Bookstore in the lower mall area for $5. The UpWords Bookstore is open Saturday 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Wednesday 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., call UpWords Ministries at (210) 561-9673 or go to www.maxlucado.com.
11. Could I get Max or Randy to sign books?
Yes. Either drop the book by the church office during office hours or mail it (with a stamped self-addressed envelope or check enclosed for return postage).
12. How does the Oak Hills Church relate to other churches and denominations?
We have chosen to emphasize what we have in common with other Christian groups rather than debate about our differences. We try to be "Christ followers only" and believe that no particular group is designated by God as "the only Christians". We are non-denominational.
13. How is your church governed? Who's in charge? How are you organized?
Our church is directed by elders who have been selected by the congregation as servant/leaders. Oak Hills Church is autonomous and does not report to any central or district headquarters.
14. How should I address Randy, Max and the rest of the ministerial staff?
The ministrial staff prefers to be called by their first names. They prefer not to be addressed as "Reverend," and the term "Pastor" applies to the elders.
15. When and where can I attend Bible classes?
Sunday: Adults and Students 10:00 & 11:45 a.m.; Children 8:30, 10:00 & 11:45 a.m.
Wednesday: Adults, Students, Children 7:00 p.m.
16. What about Sunday evenings?
Many small groups meet around the city. College and Young Adult worship is held on designated evenings. There will be special events for youth and children, as well as rehearsals for the various musicals on Sunday evenings. Sunday evenings at the building are open for ministry meetings, training programs, and special seminars.
